1. Why should I donate my car to the Songs of Love Foundation?
Donate your car to Songs of Love with confidence as you are dealing with the charity directly and supporting a worthy cause. Songs of Love has helped over 18,000 children in all 50 states and has been awarded the Independent Charities Seal of Excellence for our efficiency in allocating our financial resources. Additionally, Songs of Love is registered with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to transfer ownership of all donated vehicles from our donors into our charities name, thereby relieving you of any and all liability for your donated vehicle.

2. Will there be any cost to me?
No. Songs of Love will pay for the cost of towing your donated vehicle.

3. What can I donate?
Cars, vans, trucks, RV’s, boats, heavy equipment, and real estate, as long as you have clear title and the vehicle is whole (not stripped of doors, hoods, etc.)

4. How can I apply for a title for my vehicle?
You may contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles. The following states allow you to apply for a replacement title online. The states and corresponding DMV websites follow:

Maryland: http://www.mva.maryland.gov/
New York: http://dmv.ny.gov/title/
Virginia: http://www.dmv.state.va.us/

If your state is not listed above, please contact us and we will gladly assist you in acquiring all the necessary forms to apply for a transferable title for your vehicle.

5. Can I donate a vehicle that does not run?
Yes, except when the towing and processing fee is more than the value of the vehicle.

6. Does Songs of Love accept Boats, RV’s or Real Estate for donation?
Songs of Love accepts these donations on a case by case basis. Please contact one of our friendly representatives for more information.

7. How long does it take to get my vehicle picked up?
Usually in 1 to 3 days. If you wish, you can call us directly at 888-909-SONG and we will do our best to expedite the process. Please have a clean vehicle title handy. This will certainly help make it a quick and easy donation.

8. Is Songs of Love a non-profit organization?
Yes, we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and the IRS determination letter is available upon request.

9. Is my donation tax deductible?
Donations to Songs of Love are tax deductible. Please consult your tax specialist or accountant as to your specific tax situation.

10. Who determines what my donated vehicle is worth and how much is it worth?
The donor of a vehicle may deduct the greater of $500 or the sale price of their vehicle. As per the FSC/Jobs Bill, there are exceptions whereby a donor may deduct the “fair market value” for their vehicle. In these situations, you and your tax specialist will determine the value of your donated vehicle. Please call our friendly representatives with any questions. 11. Is your car donation program available nationwide?
We service all 50 states with certain restrictions in some areas*

12. Where do the proceeds from the sale of my vehicle go?
Vehicles donated to The Songs of Love Foundation are donated to Songs of Love directly, with no outside/middleman companies involved, thus every dollar raised by the sale of your donated vehicle goes directly to bringing The Medicine of Music to many more children nationwide.

13. Why doesn’t Songs of Love provide financial compensation (cash, vacations) in exchange for my donation?
As a legitimate charity Songs of Love complies with all IRS regulations. As per IRS tax law a charity may not provide goods or services in exchange for your donation without disclosing the “gift” to the IRS. Should the charity disclose this amount of compensation provided, you would be required to deduct that compensation from your tax deduction as well as pay taxes on the financial incentive provided to you. Failure to do so could lead to an IRS audit. Therefore it would be dishonest for a legitimate charity to provide compensation for a donation when the result of this “gift” is a tax liability for the donor. Should a charity fail to disclose to the IRS the “gift” they provided in exchange for the donation they are acting unscrupulously and violating IRS tax law; with the possible result of termination of their non-profit status and IRS investigation of their donors. Again, Songs of Love is a legitimate charity and when you donate to Songs of Love, you are dealing directly with our organization, with no-middlemen involved–so you can donate with confidence!
