An amazing New Year!
Songs of Love has kicked off the New Year with an ambitious goal in mind, to make 2,000 songs in 2018. That’s about 40 per week, and we’re off to a great start, having received 144 song requests already this month!
With a growing handful of dedicated songwriters who make anywhere from 1 song/month to 1 song/day, we are really cranking out the tunes here, and most importantly, bringing smiles to kids and families who need it most. Thank you songwriters!
Having recently strengthened our partnership with Give Kids the World, a nonprofit resort in Florida which provides weeklong, cost-free vacations to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, we are now connecting with about 20 children each week who come from all over the world for their special GKTW experience. Last week alone we received requests from England, Ireland, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada, and all over the US. Our Medicine of Music is reaching farther than ever thanks to the dedication of our local Florida resident and Music Messenger Heidi Ortega, who is helping us spread the word at the GKTW Village every week.We are also very thankful to all of the hospital staff, child life specialists, nurses, music therapists, social workers, and more who keep us in mind and connect us with their patients all year long. We are very grateful to be working with such thoughtful and caring people! To hear a sample of some of the songs we have made this year, check out our 2018 playlist on Spotify! Follow this link: songsoflove.org/spotify to take a listen. If you are reading this and know of anyone who might be interested in working with us as a songwriter, please let us know! We are particularly on the search for songwriters who can write lyrics in Spanish. Special thanks to all of the wonderful people who are helping us not only spread the joy of music to children in need, but also helping support the arts. Through the generosity of our donors, we are very happy to now be offering songwriters a small stipend for their efforts on a per song basis.
That’s all for now, stay tuned for next month’s updates!
